Its capital city Budapest was originally two different cities separated by the River Danube: Buda, which is older and more graceful, and Pest which is the commercial centre. Hungarian is the official language and the currency is the Hungarian Forint (HUF).

While Budapest is often seen as the be all and end all of Hungary, other cities such as Eger, Pécs, Szentendre and Sopron offer just as much vibrancy and history with their stunning architecture and local nightlife.
